The Fantastic Voyage: More Research

More Scrolling Games

As I have now decided on what type of game I want to produce, I now need to focus on style and how to keep my chosen target audience interested in playing.

FEZ
3D AND 2D!

Rhys showed me this great looking game called FEZ that shows a mind blowing 2D environment switch to 3D. Something that I will definitely consider for my animation.

Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers is a good example of a game that could become very addictive. It also has a strong art style that work for its target audience, however too 'child-friendly' for what I am aiming for.

First Person Mario

In this game, we see a pre-view of the original 2D Mario game alongside its 3D first person counterpart. This effect could easily be produced in After Effects.

The Fantastic Voyage: New Ideas!

SLIME GUY!
Gameplay Trailer

After my OGR response and research, I decided to nonetheless get stuck in with possible ideas. I really like the idea of having the 'slug' as a character fending of enemies to reach other slime molds to reproduce, and furthermore allow the option of multiplier screens.

This lead to the idea of having a game that would allow the audience to control the slime mold and 'kill' off attackers and eat food to level up, etc. This idea will take a lot of work and after effects; but I'm up for the challenge!

The Fantastic Voyage: OGR (1) Response

OGR (1) Response

After receiving feedback from my OGR: I had the big YES to go ahead and develop my Arcade game themed animation. This said; I have taken a broader look at possible ideas that Phil has linked to me and other various discoveries along the way.

I also had a look at old school arcade games here.

MAX AXE

Max Axe struck me the most from what Phil linked me. Its the up-scrolling ''RADICAL''-ness that really impresses me. This is certainly something to influence my animation as a trailer with game-play.

Bejeweled
Voice Over & Effects

For me, Bejeweled had one of the most remembered soundtracks and voice over. Its something that keeps you interested in the game and wanting to reach those high scores and multiple combos.

I think my sounds should stay feminine; however this may change later as my idea evolves.

The Fantastic Voyage: Visual Concept

Idea Development
Side-Scrolling Game

After working out my target audience for my Fantastic Voyage project, I decided to look more into existing side-scrolling games that would appeal to my target audience. (Teenage years and above).

Deadlight

LIMBO

LIMBO: 2D and 3D elements.
This is something I'd like to incorporate in my Fantastic Voyage animation.

Dark Matter

Secondly, I have decided that using the black foreground elements to my advantage and have light play a big role in my story. Show here in Dark Matter.

Voice
Narrating Voice Over

Also looking into other side scrolling video games, I decided that I really like the idea of either male or female semi-robotic voice over could be 'telling' the story for us. Maybe narrating what we see on screen. or example, if the 'player' (Audience) got something wrong...
