CG Artist: (4) Simple Walking

Practicing a Normal Walk Cycle

During this mornings Character & Animation class, we talked about how a typical walk cycle would look like. Therefore we went of to practice the keyframes for a normal walk and took photos in Dragon to test how it would be animated.

Here is my practice animation for the walk cycle. The main problem I noticed in the drawing the cycle first hand was getting the feet in the right places so it does not make it look like the character is slipping.

CG Artist: (3) Sack Animation

Practicing Sack Animation

During this mornings sack animation, I had prepared a sequence of key frames to see whether or not my animation works as a whole.

Here is a practice paper I had prepared last week.

Due to technical issues, I had to take my images from Dragon and imported them into Premier Pro.

CG Artist: (2) Gestures

Gestures

This mornings Animation & Character session was about how we see and understand gestures.

The first task was to do a continuous line drawing without looking at the paper of the person opposite you.

The second task was to draw quick, gestural poses from the class mates. This was to show tension and understanding of the pose.

Bouncing Ball in a Sack Animation

During this mornings Animation & Character class, we were told to draw our previous bouncy ball, however it will be enclosed in a sack. We were given 20 mins to create and practice drawing our sack in a way to perceive a character.

CG Artist: Finished Zoetrope

Zoetrope Animation

Here are some pictures of my final Zoetrope animation within a Zoetrope created by hand and coloured by water colour pencils.

I wanted to create a very natural and cheerful animation embracing the childlike approach to create a boldly coloured 'Rainbow Wave'.

Practising Final Zoetrope Morph

Practicing Movement

Here is my test run of my Zoetrope animation edited and put together in Dragon.

This will be my final Zoetrope animation presented at the crit next Friday. I plan to be creating everything by hand and expressing its use of colour using water based paints and inks.

CG Artist: Zoetrope Practice

Practising Ideas for Final Zoetrope Animation

During this mornings animation class I decided to get some ideas down on paper about what I would like to re-create onto my Zoetrope strip of paper for my first Animation Crit in 2 weeks time. I have focussed on 'morphing' animation rather than a standing image repeated.

I really enjoyed creating these ideas as each one could potentially be used as my final animation.

CG Artist: Bouncing Ball

Bouncing Ball Animations
Tennis Ball & Bowling Ball

The 'Tennis' ball was my very first ball animation focusing on speed, aerodynamics and 'bounciness'. The second animation is about the bounce of a 'Bowling' ball and its differences in resistance.

Pixillation Animation

Here are exported videos of this mornings Animation lesson with Meg. We were shown professional examples to give us inspiration to then go onward's to make our animation.

Final Animation

This is our groups final Pixillation Animation.
Our idea was about a manic who would capture and splat people up onto the wall.

Animation Creature Morphing

Morphing Creatures - The Consequence Game

During this mornings Toolkit: Animation session we were given the task of creating a character in stages. We all had a piece of paper, fold it 3 or 4 times and create the 'head'. Afterwards, we had to hide our drawings by folding that piece over, then we had to swap it with the other people in our group.

The Final Animation

We decided to use drawing (C) to be our main focus for our animation.
Here was our final outcome of the animation, however because we finished it early, we decided to add an explosion too it!

We began with a water drop shape then began morphing. Smudging the lines and rubbing out marks we make and taking photos as we went.

Group (2) Animation

Morphing Faces

During today's Animation & Character session, we were given the task to draw a class mates portrait going around the room clockwise. Afterwards, we were told to swap the pieces of paper with the person we had drawn to trace over it. So we had to draw the stages in between each drawing to ''Morph'' one face to the next. The challenge was to get this done within only nine frames and making it as fluid as possible. This would create a continuous loop going around the table once edited in Dragon.

Here is the finalised video of our group's animation:

This was a really fun and enjoyable lesson and when looking at other artists' examples enabled us to really understand the potential of this technique.

Animation & Character Briefing

Today I have had the Animation & Character briefing with a slight overview about what animation is and what it can consist of. I was given a peice of paper with a template of what is known as a 'Eadweard Muybridges Phenakistoscope' layout.

The Phenakistoscope uses a spinning disc attached vertically to a handle and placed around the disc's center were a series of drawings show the phases of the animation. The viewer can see it through a series of equally spaced vertical slits.

Here is my short animation of a balloon expanding and then popping.

Here is an exsisting example from Eadweard Muybridge of the images laid out facing the outer rim of the circle created in 1893. Each image is different so when the image is spun all we see is a moving picture.
